Roulette is a Game of Luck

Roulette is the ultimate game of luck. It is a game that is played by people who want to test their luck. This is due to the fact that the game is based entirely on luck. There is no technique to placing wagers and it doesn’t require any skill, talent or experience.

The first game of Roulette was played in Europe in France in the seventeenth Century and now it became one of the most popular casino games. The most popular cities that is known for Roulette is Monte Carlo as it has a huge number of casinos that are based around Roulette tables. There are many versions of this game but two of the most popular ones are the American Roulette and the European Roulette.

The Wheel of the Roulette

Despite the various number of Roulette versions but they all share the same concept. The Roulette wheel at all of the games contains a minimum of thirty seven numbers. These number includes Zero and from one to thirty six. Some versions such as American Roulette have an extra number which is the Double Zero.

As for the colors of the wheel, the Zero and the Double Zero numbers are green and they are called house numbers. This naming comes from the fact that they are always wagered on by the house because gamblers at Roulette tables rarely place any wagers on the Zero of the Double Zero. The rest of the numbers on the wheel is either red or black.

The Procedure of the Game

A Roulette table can take up to 8 players. All of them play against the dealer who is also referred to as the croupier who represents the casino or the house. The croupier is the one who spins the wheel, takes bets and awards the winning players. At most casinos, players are given specific colored chips.

Each player has a specific color. This is made in order to avoid the mixing of the players’ chips on the wagering table of Roulette. After the wheel stops spinning and after the ball rests on the winning number, the winners are announced and they are awarded their winnings.

The placement of the wagers has its own system. Players will start to place their bets before the wheel starts spinning. They will continue to place bets and even change the placement of their wagers after the wheel starts spinning. When the ball starts to slow down and it becomes close to settling on one of the numbers on the Roulette wheel, the croupier will say “No More Bets Please”. This signals players that they can’t change or make any bets and that the bets on the table are final.

After the wheel stops and the winners are declared, the dealer will take the losing wagers and awards the winners. Players are not permitted to place any wagers before the dealer sweeps the losing bets and gives the winners their chips.

The Advantage of the House

The house advantage varies between one roulette variant to another. For instance, on the double zero tables, the house advantage is 5.26 percent. The house advantage in single zero tables is 2.7 percent. This advantage is gained by giving the winning players one to two chips less than what they earn if there was no house advantage.

Different Kinds of Roulette:

1- American Roulette:

In this version of Roulette, the wheel has 38 number slots, the usual Zero, the 00 and numbers from 1 to 36. Having the double zero is bad for players because it means that the house has a higher advantage which is equal 5.26%. The 00 slot was added to the game when it first came to America one hundred and fifty years ago in order to increase the profitability for the casinos.

2- European Roulette:

In this variant of Roulette, the wheel has a total of thirty seven number slots, the zero and the numbers from 1 to 36. Having only one zero means that the house advantage is less, this is why players are advised to play at the European Roulette because of the lower house advantage.

3- French Roulette:

The rules of the French Roulette resemble the rules of the European Roulette. It also has 37 number slots on the wheel. The only difference is that it has its own table layout for the outside bets. The odds of players in this version is the same as the European one because it only has one zero. Players will only lose half of the even money bets if the ball rests at the Zero slot. This rule is called La Partage rule.

4-Casasta Roulette:

This is a very popular version of roulette that is familiar in Costa Rica. It is called Canasta and it has the same layout of the 00 layout but instead of a wheel, the numbers are selected from a wire cage that has balls with numbers on them. It resembles the ones that are used in a normal game of Bingo.
